Hello Sunshine...

Did you see it?

We were so lucky to experience the total eclipse of the sun in the East Neuk! Blessed with blue skies and sunshine glistening over the sea, people watched all around the villages, as the moon passed in front of the sun and dimmed the lights for a while....

Our next chance to experience this celestial wonder will be in 75 years!

It's a beautiful reminder to stop and appreciate all of life's precious moments as they pass.

So, for now, lets take pleasure in the sunshine, the spring equinox and tonight's new moon. It's all happening...

Happy Weekend! xo

Love And Marriage, Love And Marriage...

Oh, we do love a good wedding!

The only tiny challenge is that it can be tough choosing a special gift to give the happy couple.

On the other hand, if you're a friend of the bride and/or groom, you'll no doubt know a thing or two about their passions and pleasures - and this is the key to giving the perfect present!

With this information in mind, Karen Edward at Funky Scottish can hand-paint a beautiful, commemorative plate featuring a truly original, bespoke design that celebrates the couple, their big day and their ongoing adventure together!

If you'd like to book a commemorative plate, get in touch via www.funkyscottish.com

Month Of The Puffins! New Arrivals On The Isle Of May...

This month, we revisit the Puffin Collection by Karen Edward at Funky Scottish.  At this time of year, puffins are getting ready to arrive on the Isle of May, a small island in the East Neuk, which will be their home and breeding ground until late summer.

The young, known as pufflings, will be 5-7 weeks old when they're strong enough to leave the island, ready for an adventure on the open seas!  They won't return again until they're of breeding age, in around 5 years. Naturally, these beautiful birds attract a lot of interest. During the coming months, countless visitors will flock to the Isle of May to see the puffins in their wild, natural habitat.

Artists are particularly fascinated with the characterful little birds and Karen Edward is no exception.  Discover her up-close depictions of puffins and via Karen's artist's notes, learn how she transforms her paintings into a collection of cards, tiles, mugs and booklets for you to enjoy.

"this range is taken from paintings done in acrylic, then scanned into the computer."

"The images can then be used on cards and note books, which are printed for me elsewhere - they make lovely, popular gifts in the shop. The ceramics are a little more complex.  The images of my puffin paintings are tiled up and sent to a company that makes them into sheets of transfers"

"...I then apply them to blank tiles and fire them in my kiln."

"it's a different process from the hand-painting but I love doing them".

"it's very restful and I usually sit in my studio, turn the music up and get on with it!"...
